Amnesty International continues to be gravely concerned at the continuing use of torture and ill-treatment by law enforcement officers in Portugal. There is further concern at the failure of the judicial and administrative system to deal effectively with such cases, even when the case involves a suspicious death, and when serious crimes are supported by medical evidence. This report details such instances of torture and ill-treatment, alleged racial abuse, and cases of suspicious death.
