Romania: Forced eviction of Roma and alleged collusion in US-led rendition and secret detention programmes: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, January-February 2013

In this submission, Amnesty International assesses progress made by Romania in implementing recommendations it accepted during its previous UPR, in particular recommendations on discrimination against Roma. Amnesty International is concerned that Roma are adversely affected by forced evictions and are the victims of racial segregation in access to housing. The organization also reiterates its concern that the authorities are yet to ensure an independent, thorough and effective investigation into its alleged collusion with the US Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) rendition and secret detention programmes.
