United Kingdom: Cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment during forcible deportation

There is concern at allegations of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment during forcible deportation of refused asylum-seekers and immigrants. In some of the cases highlighted in this report unauthorized equipment was used to restrain deportees, including mouth gags, adhesive tape and plastic straps. Amnesty International is calling on the government to initiate a fully independent and impartial inquiry into the alleged ill-treatment of the following cases: Mr G, Dorothy Nwokedi, Rukhsana Faqir and Meya Mangete. This report also examines the joint Home Office and Police review of removal procedures in immigration cases involving the police, and the use of private security firms by the Home Office.
