United Kingdom: Prison deaths

Amnesty International is concerned at a number of issues surrounding the deaths in prison in 1995 in disputed circumstances of three black detainees, Alton Manning, Kenneth Severin and Dennis Stevens. In each case there have been allegations that fatality may have occurred as a result of ill-treatment, the use of unlawful force and/or unauthorized restraint methods. Such allegations are consistent with injuries detected on their bodies. Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to carry out fully independent investigations into their deaths and to make the findings public.
