Ukraine: Domestic Violence – Blaming the Victim

In this briefing Amnesty International shows that despite measures taken by the Ukrainian government to combat domestic violence, the problem remains widespread and women who are victims of violence in the home do not have adequate protection or recourse to justice. Ukraine is failing to fulfil its obligations under international human rights law to exercise due diligence to secure women’s rights to equality, life, liberty and security, and freedom from discrimination, torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Amnesty International makes eight recommendations to assist the government in abiding by its obligations under international human rights law.
