Kyrgyzstan: Andrei Arazov, Sultan Karibzhanov

An unofficial source reports that these two men were sentenced to death for premeditated, aggravated murder on 7 February 1994. The Supreme Court rejected their appeal on 5 April 1994. Their last hope of avoiding execution is a petition for clemency to the President. There is concern that the verdicts may be unsound as the only evidence linking them to the crime is confessions made during interrogation. Both men retracted these confessions at trial, stating that they had been extracted by force.
