Moldova: Developments on the death penalty

This paper examines the moves towards abolition of the death penalty in Moldova and outlines the current state of legislation and practice concerning the death penalty. Appendices give information on the offences in the Moldovan Criminal Code currently carrying a possible death sentence; statistics on the application of the death penalty; and extracts from international human rights standards relating to the death penalty. Information is also given on a death sentence handed down in the self-proclaimed Dnestr Moldovan Republic.
