Uzbekistan: A briefing on current human rights concerns – May 2010

In light of the upcoming fifth anniversary of the so-called Andizhan events in May 2010, Amnesty International provides background information on key human rights concerns currently persisting in Uzbekistan. Amnesty International believes that the highlighted concerns are rooted in a deep-seated culture of impunity for human rights violations and a failure by the Uzbekistani authorities to fully guarantee genuine freedom of expression and association as stipulated by the ICCPR.
