Amnesty International is concerned that the right to conscientious objection to military service is restricted under the Slovak legislation on civilian service. This legislation stipulates that prospective conscripts can only apply for alternative civilian service for a limited period of time after they have been declared fit for military service. At least three young men have been imprisoned for evading military service because they did not meet the application deadline, and there are several others currently being prosecuted on the same grounds. This report examines the legislation and provides information on seven cases of conscientious objectors: Erik Kratmuller, Martin Badin, Martin Bednar, Milos Lipinsky, Emanuel Munko, Timotej Novotny and Miroslav Albert.
