In this submission Amnesty International comments on the government’s implementation of recommendations that Bahrain supported during its previous UPR in April 2008. Amnesty International notes that key human rights standards to which Bahrain is a party are not reflected in domestic legislation. Moreover, the National Human Rights Institution appears to have limited impact. Amnesty International expresses concern at the excessive use of force by security forces in the context of anti-government protests. Detained protesters received unfair trials and human rights activists, continue to face harassment and arrest.
