Egypt: Torture remains rife as cries for justice go unheeded

Over the past two decades thousands of detainees have been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in Egypt. Torture and ill-treatment remain widespread because the Egyptian authorities refuse to take basic steps necessary to stamp out their practice in police stations and other detention centres.
