Egypt: Appeal Case. Imprisonment for Actual or Perceived Sexual Orientation in Agouza

Gay men in Egypt suffer discrimination, persecution, imprisonment and violence simply for their actual or perceived sexual orientation. 12 men have been sentenced to three years imprisonment charged with “habitual debauchery”, legislation that is applied to consensual sexual relations between adult men, who are then effectively criminalized. This discrimination is an assault on the very notion of human rights. It systematically denies certain people or groups their full human rights just because of who they are or what they believe.
