Five of the nine Iranian Azerbaijani activists named in this Urgent Action were conditionally released in October 2008. All nine were charged with “acting against national security” and had been held in solitary confinement in Tehran's Evin prison since their arrest on 10 September 2008. The other four men remain in solitary confinement.
