Three men ('Ali Hassan al-Majid, Sultan Hashim Ahmad al-Ta'I and Hussain Rashid al-Tikriti), all senior officials under the government of Saddam Hussain, who were sentenced to death on 24 June 2007, had their appeals rejected by the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal (SICT) on 4 September. They face execution within 30 days of this ruling. They cannot now be pardoned by the President, who has the power of clemency for prisoners condemned by other courts
