Nawaf Isma’il Hussein al-Qaysi has been under interrogation by the General Security Service since his arrest on 13 January 1997. During this time he has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment. Three months before his detention he underwent major abdominal surgery after sustaining gunshot wounds during violent demonstrations in Jerusalem. Although it is believed that he is no longer being subjected to torture, there remains concern that he is not receiving adequate medical care.
