Syria/Lebanon: “Disappearance” / fear of torture: Ahmad Hamad

There is concern for the safety of Ahmad Hamad, a Lebanese medical doctor, whose whereabouts remain unknown after he was abducted on 18 or 19 June 1997 in Akkar, North Lebanon, reportedly by members of the Syrian military intelligence. His arrest is believed to relate to his alleged membership of the banned pro-Iraqi Ba’ath Party.
