Amnesty International is concerned about the imminent introduction of a new Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure, expected during the holy month of Ramadan, beginning 5 March 1992. AI is concerned that whipping and amputations may be introduced as judicial punishments. Another concern is the possible involvement of medical professionals in these punishments, which would be in breach of international medical ethics codes.
