Activism Center - Community Guidelines

Please read these guidelines before registering on amnesty.org. Members who ignore or openly disregard these house rules will be barred from the Online Community space immediately, and their user profile may be permanently deactivated.

All comments remain the property of the author

Please note that failure to remove particular material does not constitute an endorsement or acceptance of it by Amnesty International. Any message posted on our Community space expresses only the views of the author of the post and does not necessarily reflect Amnesty International’s views or that of any other person on the forum.

Ensure you hold the copyright to your comments

Please do not include any copyright material without the express permission of the copyright holder.  Amnesty does not accept liability for copyright breaches you commit, and will remove any offending entries.  “Fair use” of copyrighted materials is encouraged, and members are encouraged to cite the source.

Do not post private data

When using the Online Community area, we recommend that you do not provide personal details, either your own or those of somebody else.  We will remove any telephone numbers, emails or addresses, unless they are already publicly available (eg, a box office or helpline).

Identity Theft

We strictly prohibit the use or theft of another person’s identity.  If it is suspected that an individual is using a stolen identity they will be barred from the Online Community space immediately and their user profile deactivated.

Linking to other websites or blogs

Web addresses will be removed unless you are referencing a particular item or article for the purpose of general conversation or discussion. Links posted by users on the Community forum or Calendar do not imply endorsement by Amnesty International.

Respect

Amnesty International wishes to maintain an online space for the democratic exchange of human rights information and ideas that respect all points of view. Activists are encouraged to act and use the Online Community space responsibly.

Stay on topic

Activists are encouraged to stay on human rights-related topics. Offensive, abusive, or non-related material, or links to offensive, abusive or non-related material, will not be permitted.

Observe the law

Activists are strictly prohibited from posting a message with the intention of committing an illegal act or describing violent intentions towards other people, governments and organisations.

Moderation policy

All comments within the Activism Center are post-moderated by the Community. All registered users may flag any comment as inappropriate. When the number of flags has reached a certain level, members of the Online Communities Team will be alerted and may decided to remove the flagged comment. Alternatively, the comment may have the number of flags reset. Amnesty International reserves the right to change the moderation policy at any time. Comments that are flagged as offensive are archived for future reference should legal proceedings become necessary.

Comment spam

Spamming or flooding the Online Community space with advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, solicitations, commercial communications or any other related material is not permitted on any Amnesty International Online Community space.
