Universal Declaration of Human Rights: 60th Anniversary
Amnesty International is leading a global campaign to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10December 2008.
The campaign celebrates the achievements of the last 60 years while placing a spotlight on the human rights challenges of 2008, where injustice, inequality and impunity are hallmarks of the world today. The organization will use the anniversary to ask what still needs to be done to make the promise of universal, indivisible human rights a reality for all.
To celebrate the anniversary, Amnesty International is organizing a series of Fire-Up events around the world, mobilising its 2.2 million members to recognize the historic moment when world leaders committed themselves to supporting and promoting human rights.
Information about the state of human rights in the world on this historic sixtieth anniversary is available from Amnesty International including:
-
Facts and figures: the realities of what has been delivered from the UDHR
-
Human rights defenders who have fought to make human rights a reality around the world, available for interview.
-
Human Rights trends around the world since the UDHR was signed.
-
Time Line and Key Dates in human rights over the last sixty years.
