Diary Note: Launch of new book The Unheard Truth: Poverty and Human Rights
15 October 2009
A new book by Amnesty International's Secretary General, Irene Khan, entitled 'The Unheard Truth: poverty and human rights'is being published on 15 October 2009.
Setting out that poverty is the world's worst human rights crisis, it argues for human rights to be at the centre of poverty alleviation strategies.
Including a foreword by Kofi Annan, former United Nations Secretary-General, and published by W. W. Norton & Company, the book will be launched in the run up to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October.
Notes to editors:
More information about the book is available at: www.unheardtruth.org
Book events are planned in various countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and South Korea.
This book is part of Amnesty International’s global campaign called Demand Dignity which calls for an end to the human rights violations that drive and deepen poverty. The organization believes poverty is a human rights violation. The campaign mobilises people all over the world to demand that governments and corporations listen to the voices of those living in poverty and respect their rights.
