No end in sight: The ongoing suffering of Somalia’s
civilians
On Thursday 25 March, Amnesty International will publish a short
report calling on the warring parties in Somalia to follow a set of
recommendations in a bid to end the indiscriminate killing and
wounding of civilians that has escalated since armed opposition
groups launched a major offensive against government forces on 7
May 2009.
The short report No end in sight: The ongoing suffering of
Somalia’s civiliansdocuments a catalogue of human rights
violations committed by all sides, including heavy shelling of
residential and market areas; torture and unlawful killings;
kidnappings and killings of journalists.
Amnesty International’s Somalia researcher and author of the
report, Benedicte Goderiaux, will be available for interviews from
Nairobi, Kenya, in English and French.
