CHINA Ismail Semed (m), aged 37

Ismail Semed was executed on 8 February in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR).

He had been sentenced to death on 31 October 2005 on charges of "attempting to split the motherland", after being deported from Pakistan in 2003. He had previously been charged with "attempting to split the motherland" and other offences related to possession of firearms and explosives.

His wife and two young children were allowed to meet him for 10 minutes the day before he was executed. After the execution, his body was taken to a cemetery and given to his family. His widow saw that he had been killed with a single shot to the heart.

No further action is requested from the UA network. Many thanks to all who sent appeals.
