The date of Li Jianhui's trial was reportedly changed after pressure was put on his lawyers not to plead ''not guilty'', they were told that they could only ask for leniency. Reports also say that 9 Hong Kong journalists who tried to cover the trial were detained.

Local and national TV covered the trial. 77 local booksellers in attendance were told they would be heavily fined if they sold Falun Gong books.
