DENMARK: UN COMMITTEE AGAINST TORTURE REVIEW OF GOVERNMENT REPORT
At it's biannual meeting in Geneva, the United Nation's (UN) Committee against Torture is examining the reports submitted by six governments, including Armenia, Colombia, Denmark, Guatemala, Senegal, and the United Kingdom.
The Committee examines the government reports, which detail the measures they have taken to give effect to their obligations under the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment
The report of the Danish Government is being examined by the Committee on 14 November.
It is Amnesty International's practice to submit its concerns on torture and ill-treatment on as many countries as possible whose records are being examined by the Committee, and has done so on five of the governments appearing before the committee during this session.
In relation to Denmark, the organization has submitted its report Denmark: Police Ill-treatment published in June 1994, and other published information relevant to the issues being examined by the Committee. This includes initiatives taken by the government to address these issues and an overview of the issues. The information relates to issues which the organization has discussed extensively with the Danish Government in recent years.
