Further information on UA 406/93 (MDE 11/05/93, 18 November 1993) - Fear of Forcible Exile
BAHRAIN:Dr 'Abd al-'Aziz Rashid al-Rashid
Amnesty International has learned that Dr 'Abd al-'Aziz Rashid al-Rashid, a Bahraini national, was forcibly exiled from Bahrain to the United Arab Emirates on 20 November 1993.
The Syrian authorities refused to allow him entry on 19 November as he had no valid travel documents and sent him back to Bahrain. There he was confined to the airport for 24 hours before being given a passport valid for one year and put on a flight to the United Arab Emirates.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/telexes/faxes and airmail letters in English or your own language:
- expressing regret at the forcible exile of Dr 'Abd al-'Aziz Rashid al-Rashid in contravention of international human rights standards;
- urging the authorities to reconsider their decision and to allow him and all other Bahraini nationals who have been forcibly exiled to return to Bahrain.
