Badr 'Abd al-Karim Sultan al-Bashir was executed on 22 September 1996. His death sentence had been upheld by the Court of Cassation on 24 June 1996, following which it was ratified by the Amir. He had been convicted of premeditated murder and the possession of drugs.

Badr 'Abd al-Karim Sultan al-Bashir's execution is the first this year in Kuwait.

NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUESTED FROM THE NETWORK. Thank you to all those who sent appeals.

- expressing regret at the execution of Badr 'Abd al-Karim Sultan al-Bashir on 22 September 1996;

- reiterating opposition to the death penalty, pointing out that there is no evidence that the death penalty is an effective deterrent to crime.
