MOROCCO:Hamid BENDOUROU

Amnesty International has now learnt that Hamid Bendourou died in custody in March 1991. It is now also known that he was not transferred from the secret detention centre in Tazmamert but in fact died there.

Hamid Bendourou is one of 29 detainees who died from the harsh detention conditions at the secret detention centre in Tazmamert. Sixty-one army personnel convicted in 1972 of taking part in an attempted coup against King Hassan were held there incommunicado, completely cut off from the outside world, for 18 years.

No further action is required from urgent action participants on this case at this stage. Thank you to all those who sent appeals.
