Guinea: “You did not want the military, so now we are going to teach you a lesson”: The events of 28 September 2009 and their aftermath

On Monday 28 September 2009, Guinean security forces inflicted acts of excessive force and unlawful violence, including sexual violence, and other gross violations of human rights against a peacefully protesting group of unarmed civil society organisations and political parties. None of the perpetrators of these crimes has been brought to justice. Condemnation by the international community following this repression is not enough. In this report Amnesty International makes recommendations to the Guinean authorities and to other states and intergovernmental organizations so that impunity is no longer allowed to continue and that such violence never recurs.
