Bahamas: Legislative challenges obstruct human rights progress: Amnesty International submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

In this submission Amnesty International comments on the implementation of recommendations the government accepted during its previous review in 2008. Amnesty International also comments on current concerns including retention of the death penalty, increased rates of rape and domestic violence, and the lack of legislative protection regarding marital rape. The submission also expresses alarm over increasing evidence of violence by security forces, and a lack of explicit policy regarding the protection of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals from discrimination.
