Dominican Republic: A long way ahead: reproductive rights, discrimination of Dominicans of Haitian descent and the reform of the police: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, January – February 2014

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations accepted by Dominican Republic, such as the creation of an Ombudsman function, human rights violations by police, violence against women and girls, and racial discrimination in particular towards Dominicans of Haitian descent. Amnesty International also raises concerns regarding the Dominican Republic’s new Constitution and the draft Criminal Code; violence against women and girls; illegal expulsion of migrant workers; trafficking; discrimination against LGBTI persons; freedom of the press; and, forced evictions involving the use of excessive force.
