The State of Texas intends to execute James Blake Colburn on 6 November 2002, despite the fact that the 42-year-old has an extensive history of chronic paranoid schizophrenia, the symptoms of which include hallucinations and delusions. His mental illness is undisputed by the state: he was displaying signs of his illness on the day of the crime, and there is evidence that he was not competent to stand trial.
