Japan: Briefing to the UN Committee against Torture

Amnesty International is submitting this briefing to the Committee against Torture ahead of its examination of Japan’s second periodic report on the implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The briefing points to the failure of Japan to meet its obligations under several Articles. Amnesty International is concerned that in the intervening years since its initial review in 2007 Japan has made little or no progress in implementing recommendations made by the Committee.
