Finland: Violence against women, rendition and secret detention: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, May-June 2012

In this submission Amnesty International comments on the implementation of recommendations that Finland supported during its previous UPR in 2008, including recommendations on violence against women, asylum procedures, and discrimination. The organization is also concerned about the administrative detention of irregular migrants and asylum-seekers. Transgender and intersex people face discrimination and the length of the civilian alternative to military service remains punitive. Finland must conduct an effective investigation into Finland’s alleged complicity in the US-led rendition and secret detention programmes.
