The 85th International Labour Conference: Amnesty International’s concerns relevant to the Committee on Application of Standards

The 85th International Labour Conference will meet in Geneva from 3 to 19 June 1997. This document highlights some of Amnesty International’s current concerns under the following Conventions. Under Conventions 87 and 98 on freedom of association and collective bargaining, Amnesty International is presenting information on violations against trade unionists, political and human rights activists in Colombia, Indonesia and Nigeria. Under Convention No 107 on indigenous and tribal populations there is concern at reports of continuing human rights violations against indigenous peoples in Brazil. Under Convention No 111 on non-discrimination, Amnesty International is raising concerns of adverse discrimination against women in Afghanistan, and religious intolerance and the death penalty in Iran.
