Republic of Congo: Teachers held without charge over strike

Two teachers were arrested in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, on 18 and 19 April, in connection with an ongoing peaceful strike that began on 25 February. They have not been charged and Amnesty International considers them to be prisoners of conscience, detained solely for exercising their right to freedom of expression and association. Two further members of the CRPE have also been arrested by agents of the National Security office (Bureau de la Securité Nationale).
