Liberia: No impunity for rape – A Crime against Humanity and a War Crime

Impunity for the widespread and systematic rape and other forms of sexual violence which occurred during Liberia’s internal armed conflict must end. Combatants of all parties to the conflict have been responsible for such acts, which are recognized as crimes against humanity and war crimes under international criminal law. Despite the prevalence of sexual violence during the conflict, not only has no one been prosecuted for these crimes but it also remains unclear if, how and when those responsible will be held criminally responsible and when reparations will be made to the thousands of women and girls who have been affected. This document include witness testimonies as well as background information and recommendations.
