Egypt: death penalty: Mohammad ‘Ata’-Allah ‘Omar, Rabi’ Mohammad Mahmoud Hussein

The men named above were sentenced to death on 3 December 1994. AI fears that they could be executed within weeks if the sentences are upheld. The were among 16 defendants tried by the Supreme Military Court in Cairo, all alleged members of the banned Islamist group Al-Gama’a al-Islamiya. Charges against them included killings of tourists and Egyptians and possession of weapons. Other defendants in this case received prison sentences of from 5 to 15 years.
