Iran: Submission to the Commission on the Status of Women communications procedure regarding repression of women human rights defenders

This submission to the Commission on the Status of Women is intended to draw the Commission’s attention to the continuing pattern of human rights violations experienced by women human rights defenders in Iran in reprisal for their peaceful human rights activities. These activities include advocating for the abolition of the death penalty; promoting women’s rights and opposing compulsory veiling (hijab); seeking truth, justice, and reparations on behalf of individuals who were summarily executed or forcibly disappeared during the 1980s and their families; and speaking out against the denial of access to higher education for members of Iran’s Baha’i religious minority .
