This submission highlights Egypt’s deep-rooted and ongoing human rights and impunity crisis, characterized by an alarming regression of legal protections for human rights since 2013, and widespread violations of its obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It provides Amnesty International’s findings in relation to entrenched gender based violence and discrimination against women, girls and LGBTI people; use of the death penalty; torture and other ill-treatment; arbitrary deprivation of liberty and unfair trials; violations of the rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; and repression of the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.
